Years ago we described Paddy Foyle, of The Quay House, as an ‘iconoclast’. In retrospect, we’re not sure. Iconoclasts destroy, but Mr Foyle doesn’t destroy: he just creates in a different way to everyone else. He can see one room as a surrealist would see it, and whilst another room in Quay House will be formal, it will be undershot with humour and wit. Whether you reckon he’s an iconoclast or a maverick, let’s agree on one thing: Paddy Foyle is probably the greatest interior designer in Ireland. ‘I remain in awe of the sheer exuberance and lightheartedness of these extraordinary interiors’, the blogger Pamela Peterson wrote. What will also leave you in awe is the hospitality, the welcome and the cooking from Julia and all the Foyle family.
