Eccles Hotel Glengarriff
The Eccles is of the great hotels of Ireland. In its early days it was well placed as a stagepost on the popular Prince of Wales tourist route and it has seen many eras of Irish travel, from the hand-carried carriages that were walked across Priest’s Leap (too sheer for horses), to the flying plane that actress Maureen O’Hara arrived in, and parked in the bay out front, the Eccles has earned its place in history. The beautiful historic building looks and feels like it appeared in a flash by magic wand, rather than an assembled structure of bricks and mortar, and the fire-lit, quirkily creaky interior offers an ageless, olde world charm. It is a charm the new management team is building on, so visit during one of their event days and kayak in the bay, or join one of the Big Green Egg BBQ events to get the best out of a hotel that remains a beacon of West Cork hospitality.
