Weir’s is just awesomely cool. Spend a little time perusing Pat and Una’s instagram feed, for example, and you find yourself thinking: yeah, I want that pint of Guinness, I want that cup cake, I want to be in the bar listening to these musicians, I want that chicken korma, I want those potato cakes… dammit, I want it all. Of course, if you make your way to this handsome bar, in little Multyfarnham, you can indeed have it all: the lovely drinks, the lovely food, the great music sessions, the craic. Above all, you can connect with the coolness of the way in which this hard-working couple run one of the great Midlands destinations, and you can mainline this ace cooking with all its smart notes – John Rogan’s smoked bacon with crispy potato skins and aioli; chicken supreme with bacon mash; Westmeath heifer beef burger; homemade bread and butter pudding with custard and butterscoth sauce. Weirs is the gastropub par excellence, and the coolest of the cool school.
