Running a great restaurant that offers authentic Italian cooking is no simple thing. Riccardo Cavaliere and his family must balance their curation of the Italian classic dishes that customers expect, and somehow also find space to allow their own culinary creativity to flourish. The fact that they manage to seamlessly serve both these masters, and have done so for three decades, is the reason why, for many food lovers, Rinuccini is the first-choice destination in Kilkenny. The cooking is lush – calamari and courgette fritters with lemon and anchovy aioli; gorgonzola ravioli; spaghettini with polpettine; house porchetta with Marsala sauce – the room is plush and welcoming, whilst the staff simply could not be better at their job, offering respectful, dedicated service. The wine list has many great bottles and Rinuccini is simply a delight.
