The Gallic Kitchen, a Gourmet Cottage in Abbeyleix

Archive - all the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

The Gallic Kitchen is a Gourmet Cottage. Sophisticated yet simple food is what truly defines its ethos. It's vintage charm fits in with the dated yet timeless town of Abbeyleix.
It's a community kitchen that is welcoming and pretty. Whilst preserving a country feel, the food, in a sense, comprises classic picnic dishes. During a recent visit, with a group of friends en route to a festival weekend, we enjoyed: their signature double-barrelled sausage rolls; chicken and ham pie; beef pie; and vegetarian quiche was our menu for the road. Perfect energy food. Packaged in delightful brown bags. Some places do classic dishes so well that they never die out, and the pure and wholesome tastes are the key to the art of Sarah Webb. There is a belief in making good honest food from scratch, and that is seen in not only the pies but in the jams, marmalades, chutneys, cakes, etc. Their menu is diverse and there is something for every palate. Overall, they understand cooking on an unbelievably high level, and they are players within that dimension. The Gallic Kitchen makes the good stuff, and only the good stuff.
