Wild and Native
There is only one sign you do not want to see if you are in Rosslare, and that is the blackboard, on the path outside Fergal and Jodie Dempsey’s Wild & Native restaurant, telling you in big chalked letters: ‘We are Fully Booked: Sorry.’ Aaargh! So, make sure to make that booking, because this Wexford powerhouse has been on a roll over the last year, and it is the hot destination for all those holidaymakers and residents. The fish cookery is amongst the best there is: lobster thermidor; brill with crabmeat and beurre blanc; exceptional cod – but over the last year the non fish dishes have improved dramatically, and the quality and consistency of the puddings has improved to match the seafood. Excellent Wexford potatoes and vegetables means you’ll be booking a table as you’re settling the bill.
