The Stop B&B

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

However you assess cult status, Galway’s The Stop B&B tops it, and then some. Russ and Emer's modestly magnificent house betrays their gallerist backgrounds, with the precise and perfect placing of every object, and the result is feng shui heaven, right down to the placement of the sleeves of the classic vinyl records that play each morning. Bathe all this design glory in the bright light of a Galway morning, and you have a superlative destination, a place where everything is shown in it's best light. What you don't see, of course, is the hard work that Russ and Emer have poured into the place, as they have tweaked and polished and perfected. What they aim for, they have said is a “very calm, beautiful energy”, and they deliver that in spades. Every object is there for a reason, every aspect of the furnishing and the cooking has been chosen for maxuimum impact and, the fact that the exterior is so unassuming, only adds to the tumultuous effect which The Stop creates. We have compared it to a beautiful Asian bowl: the subtle exterior opens to reveal an interior of spectral magnificence.
