Sonny's Deli

Archive - all the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

It may not be much more than a tiny prow of a house on the wrong side of Cork city, but Sonny’s Deli looms large in the affection of Leeside food lovers. Many people would vote their sandwiches to be the best in Cork – a classic Reuben has salt beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing, and the banh mi is a good as you would get in Vietnam. All the food, from salads to the daily specials to the meticulous baking, is of the highest standard, and is tribute to the exacting standards of owners Jack and Rachel. When they make a ham and cheese sarnie, it’s Arbutus bread packed with Gubbeen hot smoked ham, Timo’s aged cheddar from East Cork, and lots of rocket, tomato and mustard mayo. The curries, goulashes and chillis are fab, the sweet treats amongst the best. Sonny’s may be small, but it is perfectly formed.
