The Shelbourne Dublin

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

Step in off St Stephen’s Green, past the liveried concierges, into the foyer of The Shelburne Hotel, and: Boom!
It is 2005, all over again, and the citizens of Dublin have never, ever heard the word recession. The Shelbourne is, once again, the centre of Dublin living, the grand dame of hospitality, a place to stay, a place to socialise in the bars – a drink in the Horseshoe Bar is a Dublin rite of passage for anyone who comes to the city – a place to eat in the Saddle Room restaurant, and a place to hang out in the Mayor’s Lounge, as the piano tinkles and the people come and go, and come and go. The cooking is good, the staff are first class, and there is a cool subterranean pool in the spa. Dublin is better for the Shelbourne Hotel, simple as that, and whilst it is, as you would expect, a pricey destination, the experience of staying here is worth every cent.
