Olive Delicatessen and Cafe

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

Olive is both loved-up, and powered-up. The devoted customers of the star of Skerries love it to bits, of course, and they also bring their energy along with their appetites to Peter and Deirdre’s benchmark café and deli, creating a raucously enlivened atmosphere in this lovely room right through the day. There is no other café which is such a beloved home-from-home to every single demographic imaginable, from the chattering boomers to the newly-born, and everyone in between. The staff both love their work, and bring to it a zealous energy that makes everything they do taste even better. Their care and consideration for their craft, and their hungry desire to do their best, whether it is writing the day’s menus on the blackboards or making the perfect sandwich or fashioning an artistic spinach strudel, is heart-warming in every way. And that’s why everyone loves Olive, and why Olive is all loved-up: it is the hearth of Skerries.
