Monk's Lane

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

Don’t let the somewhat ramshackle, knockabout style of Monk’s Lane fool you for a moment. Gavin and Michelle are meticulous, devoted, painstaking hosts, and there is nothing in this defining gastropub that has not been thought-through and road tested before it is allowed on the menu or on the drinks list. So you order the fish pie, or the steak salad, or the bangers and mash with craft beer gravy, knowing that each element is considered and executed with abiding care. The same careful eye drives the service, which is exemplary, and the style of the bar, the dining room, the beer garden, and their new gin parlour, which is the sort of space that will soon be featuring in every style bible. A country classic, for sure.
