Everything in Fearghus McCormack’s iconic D4 bar and kitchen gleams, bright and shiny and buffed and polished, which means that Mr McCormack and his crew have you from the first moment you step through the door. Housekeeping of this standard gladdens the heart, and lets you know that these guys care about all the details of what they do, and are passionate about doing it right. It’s significant that they give customers a thank-you voucher at the end of the year, for it shows how much they value their regulars, and those regulars come back time and again for the excellent service, and the excellent cooking: Hereford rib-eye with dauphinoise potatoes; duo of Irish pork with Madeira; MI burger with chunky chips. This is hearty, satisfying, savoury food, and it’s also excellent value for money – in particular the Thursday and Saturday steak nights. Good weekend brunches are just the thing after a big beach walk.
