When people talk about “West Cork”, they are really talking about the sort of experience you can enjoy in Manning’s. From the outside, it looks like a standard country grocer’s shop. But then you notice the pizza oven, and the serious coffee machine, and the tapas menu and, if you’ve arrived early, you might decide to have Eggs Royale on sourdough topped with smoked salmon for brunch, maybe with a glass of fino. And you ask yourself: how can they manage to do this in a country grocer’s shop? But managing the magic is part of the West Cork thing that Laura and Andrew Heath and Val Manning all conjure up, seemingly out of the ether. The service, of course, is as charming as all get out and, if you want to understand “West Cork”, you just need to stop at Manning’s.
