MacNean House & Restaurant
Neven Maguire is the only working chef in Ireland who is mononymous: Neven. When a chef is so famous that he can get by with just a single moniker, you might reckon it would do his head in. But Mr Maguire today is the same dude he was 25 years ago, when we first began to include the MacNean in the 100 Best Restaurants. Then, he cooked alongside his mum, Vera, and knocked everyone dead with the most amazing deserts you could eat. He’s come a long way, but his devotion to his village, his team, and his food means he remains as besotted as the kid who first put Blacklion on the map. His food is wonderfully mature and pleasing: the signature Thornhill duck plate; scallops with pork cheek; the incredible chocolate cremeux. Great staff back the boss to the hilt.
