Deirdre Daly is one of the best cooks working on the Wild Atlantic Way. Ms Daly could serve her food from a Nissen hut set in a deserted industrial estate, and we would all flock to eat it. Fortunately, at her base in the golf club in Kilkee, Ms Daly not only gives us sublime food, she also gifts us with some of the finest sea views on the WAW. If ever there was a win-win for the customer, Lir is it. Her creative touch is evident everywhere: the saffron beurre blanc with wolffish; the shaved fennel with halibut; the baked eggs with chorizo; the plum and hazelnut tart. It’s no surprise that Ms Daly’s reputation has led her to extend her reach down to Limerick city, where she oversees the food in the handsome House bar, on Howley’s Quay, a gorgeous destination which is blessed with a beautiful terrace and, of course, beautiful food.
