Having the worst location of just about any restaurant in Ireland – at the rear of the fire-destroyed Primark store and above a shuttered Spar shop – hasn’t slowed Adam and Eliza and the Taqueria team. Their singular understanding and sympathetic assurance in delivering authentic Mexican cooking will see the crew opening up a second Belfast branch, so there will be another space to marvel at their mastery of the techniques that bring Mexican food alive. From proper guacamole with corn tortilla chips, through the quesadilla with chorizo verde and onto the stunning impact of their tacos served on corn tortillas – confit pork belly and shoulder; roasted green peppers and blackened onions; 14 hour braised beef with avocado leaf – this is the real deal. Great drinks, superb Mexican-style fondue, excellent service and value, and the room has an irresistible vibe, so bring on the mescal.
