The Konkan restaurants, in Harold’s Cross and Dundrum, offer excellent, authentic Indian cooking, and some of the best value for money that you will find in Dublin. Their specialities focus on the great dishes from the south-western provinces of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Maharastra, and for us it’s an endless dilemma of wonderful choices: will we have the Chicken Cafreal, from Goa? The Pondicherry lamb stew? The Kerala potato and lamb curry? The Goan fish curry? Or what about the excellent vegetarian dishes: the tarka dal? The vegetable payaru? The baigan ka salan, with smoked aubergines and shallots cooked in spicy coconut milk sauce? The fact that the dishes are so keenly priced means that choosing is actually simple: order the lot. The wine list offers excellent value also, but we are big fans of their salty lassi, whilst having a Cobra beer brings us right back to our back-packing days on the glorious sub-Continent.
