The Kings Head
The Kings Head is everything that you hope a Galway pub would be. And much, much more. It’s cavernous, yet it’s cosy, not least their fine bistro where you enjoy a perfect palette of West Coast dishes, beautifully and wisely executed. It’s welcoming, in the very truest sense of welcoming, which means that the Grealish family make you feel that you are actually a guest in their very own home, and not just a customer in a pub. It’s historical – 800 years, don’t you know – yet it feels utterly contemporary, again thanks to the plosive energy of Paul and Mary Grealish and their team, all of them able to mainline that unique Galway energy which is both unselfconscious and generous. Best of all, the Kings Head is no tourist pastiche, despite the fact that it is on every visitor’s to-do list when they arrive in Galway city. In other busy cities, an iconic destination like The Kings Head would quickly become a facsimile. But, after a mere 800 years, the Kings Head is a living, dynamic exemplar of Galway hospitality, and West Coast cooking, at its sublime best.
