KAI Cafe Restaurant

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

When Jess and David Murphy opened Kai, in mid-2011, we made a prediction: this is going to be the hottest restaurant room in Galway city in 2011, we said. Wrong, again. Kai has been the hottest room in Galway city in 2011, and 2012, and 2013 and, yeah, ’14, ’15, ’16 and ’17. And there is no reason to reckon that this turbo-charged dynamo is going to slow down anytime soon. For one thing, Kai attracts real talents who want to work in this kitchen – keep an eye out for hannah O’Donnell! But, most of all, Kai will power ahead because everyone wants to eat Ms Murphy’s food – Roscommon hogget with harissa; john dory with agrodolce fennel; Silver Darling herrings with duck eggs; gin crudo of john dory; chocolate angel delight – and because everyone wants to mainline the energy of this formidable room.
