County Roscommon is lamb country, and no one understands that better than Mary and Eamonn Gleeson. The serious food lover can do nothing better than to travel to Roscommon town, having booked a room in Gleeson’s elegant 19th century manse, then head to their restaurant and order slow-braised Roscommon lamb steak, with a rosemary and redcurrant jus. There, in a single dish, you have the unique tastes, flavours and textures of the county of Roscommon. Mind you, you might be faced with a dilemma here, as the Gleeson’s signature dish of Roscommon lamb stew may also be what you heart desires, especially with a bottle of Black Donkey Sheep Stealer.
Maybe the only way to solve it is to stay for a few days, explore the surrounds, then head back to the town to stay another night and enjoy another dinner of excellent local foods, cooked with care and kindness. The Gleesons have been welcoming guests to their restaurant and rooms since 1991, and they are the pride of the county, with their dedicated hard work backed up at every point by a team of exceptional staff.
