Galway Hooker Brewery

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

If you are a critic who admits that you really, really covet a Galway Hooker Irish Pale Ale t-shirt, does that mean that you aren't a critic anymore?
If that’s the case, then we take off our critical hat, and are more than happy to swap it for a Galway Hooker Brewery baseball cap.
Let’s face it: everyone is a fanboy of what Ronan and Aidan have achieved in Galway Hooker. When they started, more than ten years ago, the going was tough for craft brewers. But they persisted, and they developed and adapted, and they won. Today, Galway Hooker is one of the iconic Irish brands, a series of distinctive and delicious beers that were instrumental in turning Irish people on to craft beer. They created the path that has made it so much easier for so many others, which explains why they are so respected, and regerded with such affection.
Eveything they make is more than fine: the original Hooker pale ale, the excellent stout, the 60 Knots IPA, the special edition Double-IPA. These are beautiful beers, full of subtlety and surprise, refreshing and real, and as far removed from industrialised bears as you can get.
So, get the beers. The t-shirt. The baseball cap. Do the brewery tour.
Be a fanboy.
