The Fish Kitchen
The quiet, modest restaurants are the ones we like the best. The places that you can return to, time after time, and know that the cooking will be soulful and satisfying, that the service will be friendly and unpretentious, and that the bill when it comes to leaving will be modest, and represent great value for money.
Bantry’s The Fish Kitchen pushes all those buttons. It’s in the centre of town, up a narrow flight of stairs above the fish shop, and Anne Marie and her team haven’t had to change much of anything over the last decade. They know what they do, and they do it superbly, and they do it day after day: cooking excellent food, and serving it in a clubbable, welcoming room that everyone loves. Best of all, they do all this work quietly, as if it was simple to produce excellent safood cookery every day of the week, and maintain stellar standards. But that is exactly what they do, and that’s why The Fish Kitchen is a West Cork culinary benchmark, a solid ender of good food, and good times.
