The Chop House
If you seek a Hereford striploin, or Limousin rib-eye, then Kevin Arundel’s Chop House is your destination, and their top-flight beef from Cairns’ Farm in County Louth is served with the classic companions: onion marmalade; roasted tomato; flat cap mushrooms and hand-cut chips. Away from the beef, we like Mr Arundel’s Momofuku-style riffs – scallops with pressed duck confit; foie gras with pressed rhubarb; tuna sashimi with pickled cucumber – and this is a kitchen that really enjoys cooking the food that they send out: you can taste the ambition, taste the will to please. There are also good cocktails, a buzzy room, and decent prices for Dublin 4. The Chop House has been on a roll for a few years now, winning the plaudits, hauling in the gongs, and the confidence of the team is as fetching as the food itself.
