Big Red Kitchen
Some cooks have the touch, and Nicola Smyth is one of those cooks.
It doesn’t matter whether she is fashioning a scone mix, or simmering some strawberry jam, or brewing up some lemon curd. Whatever she does, it will have that essence, that goodness, that gimme more! factor. The lemon curd will be zesty, lemony, spritzy, vital. The raspberry jam will be poised, correct, moreish, balanced. And you will put them on a Big Red Kitchen scone, and wait for the tea to draw, and the day will suddenly have a quiet perfection to it, a calmness, a time-for-me aspect. This is what BRK products give us: a taste of perfection, the taste of an artist at work, someone who cares deeply and passionately about excellence, about self-expression, about creativity.
Ms Smyth has won many awards for her jams, chutneys, sauces, jellies, cordials and honeys, even though the company is not much more than a toddler in terms of its history and development. But, once you get that vital taste, that moreish flavour, that hit of perfection, then you know instantly that you yourself would give the BRK products every award going.
Nicola Smyth has the touch.
