Base Wood Fired Pizza (Stillorgan)

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

The fact that Shane Crilly has grown his inspired Base WFP chain from the pair of original locations – in Terenure and Ballsbridge – to a collection of five restaurants, is good news for the citizens of greater Dublin.
You can now get Base pizzas in Stillorgan, Glenageary and Lucan, which is good news for the ‘burbs, because Base pizzas are benchmark pizzas, studiously conceived, and beautifully executed.
For many pizza lovers who have followed Mr Crilly’s path of pizza perfection since 2008, it’s always hard to steer yourself away from the Base Classics – the Capricciosa; the Margherita, the Roma. But, if you can let your eyes wander down the menu, there are true delights to be enjoyed in the shape of the Base Specialities such as the Crudo, the Calabria, the Verde, and many others. They will allow you to fashion your own pizza, but that’s a bit like asking Simone Rocha if you can make your own party dress; leave it to the experts, because these guys have thought long and hard about every aspect of what makes pizza one of the gret foods. delivery service means you don’t even have to interrupt your Netflix viewing: how bad is that!
