Barron’s is not just one of Waterford’s finest traditional bakeries. Barron's is one of Ireland's finest traditional bakeries.
Their breads and blaas are all made in their classic, traditional Scotch oven, with the bread allowed lots of time to develop and ferment before it meets the heat, and the final result offers nothing but sheer goodness, deliciousness and healthfulness. Esther and Joe Barron’s bakery is a wonderful family adventure, an artisan bakery with the cutest coffee shop and bake shop to buy the breads, offering a defining archetype of what an Irish artisan company could be, should be, and can be, a defining archetype of Ireland's proud bread baking tradition, alive and kicking, in the 21st century
Their beautifully-produced history of the bakery and the Barron family, Our Daily Bread, is an outstanding record of local history, and the bakery’s importance to the pretty town of Cappoquin simply cannot be overstated: it is the jewel in this pretty town. And Esther and Joe themselves seem to be ever-young, as you will find if you visit the shop to buy bread and enjoy a sandwich with a coffee, or maybe meet them at the Dungarvan Market where their trestle table will be piled high with wonderful, traditional, sweet-smelling loaves. Barron’s is a treasure.
