Tanya and Bronwen McGouran are purists. No fillers, no added sugars, nothing from the packet, no bought-in bouillons, no compromises. When you eat in the Angel Park Eatery you get angels dancing on your tongue with every bite, because these sisters do things the hard way – hard work, loads of effort, made from scratch, no shortcuts. They are purists in heart and purists in practice, so their soups and salads and sandwiches incline to the classics: potato, leek and thyme soup; mushroom and tarragon soup; beetroot and toasted almond salad; chicken bindi salad box with chickpea salad and mixed leaves. And before you manage to decide what sandwich you would like to eat, you will have a good old chuckle at their extravagant names – the Plain Jayne; the Egg Head; the 10am Las Vegas baguette (!); the great Rumplestiltskin which is their riff on the NY Reuben. This is soul food from a soulful team, and you can taste that effort, that discrimination and that culture in every bite.
