The sun will be shining this Sunday when Sheridan's Cheesemongers host their annual Irish Food festival at their beautiful headquarters at the Virginia Road station in Pottleragh, County Meath. This is one of the best festivals, and when we visited last year the buzz was crazy. There are scores of artisan luminaries taking part and showcasing this year – Kilbeggan Oats; Ballymore Farm butter; 8 Degrees brewing; Woodcock Smokery to name the smallest handful – and there are great demos for adults and children, including the brilliant Enda McEvoy on hedgerow foods. Sheridan's just do it right...

Speaking of doing it right, one of the highlights of Inishfoods was the sourdough breads baked by Thibault Peigne. M Peigne will be opening his shop and bakery in Dublin later in the year and, if you haven't tasted these breads, then you should start drooling, for they are the bee's knees, the staff of life and the stuff of legend. If The Greenhouse was the big opening of the first half of the year, M Peigne's bakery is going to be the big news come the autumn...
