The Wine Store
When Tomás Clancy of The Sunday Business Post was awarding his prize for best wine importer of the year at the start of 2012, he handed the magnum to Simon and Emma Tyrrell of The Wine Store for the third successive year. You will get no argument from wine lovers over Mr Clancy’s choice, for the Tyrrells run a superb operation in The Wine Store.
They are celebrated in particular for their selection of wines from the Rhone Valley, but the knowledge and discrimination which is their hallmark is evident in every bottle they source and supply – their Spanish wines and sherries are fantastic, their wines from the Loire Valley are beauties, their Burgundies and French regional wines are always delightful. If their wines have a characteristic, it is that they are well-tempered with even the big Rhone wines exhibiting balance and definition amidst all that umami chewiness. The Wine Store is a treasure.
