The Step House has a touch of Ballymaloe, a touch of Brooks Hotel, a touch of Ballynahinch Castle. People are very chilled when eating and drinking and staying here, enjoying the vibe, the rooms, the bar and dining area with its clubby informality. The Step House feels just right, it feels in the right place, and there is no pretentiousness. And Alan Foley’s cooking is superb. Here is a chef who uses brilliant local artisan foods and knows just what to do with them, so his food is clamorous with flavour and shows classy execution.
Mr Foley is shaping up to be one of the stars of the decade and we are looking forward to seeing the development of a dynamic chef.
