Rachel's Garden Cafe
The Doyle family have created a world-unto-itself here at Arboretum, in Leighlinbridge, and their fierce ambition and relentless desire to entrance and delight their customers has led to a well-deserved series of awards over the years. You could point to any one aspect of this enormous operation to exemplify how they are always looking to improve, but the lovely, colourful, swish Rachel’s Café is our favourite indicator of their determination to always up their game. For starters, it’s a great space, comfortable, with plenty of room, just right for a cup of coffee and a scone or a bowl of granola and yogurt at 11am as it is for a lazy, lingering lunch after you have worn yourself out shopping. But the quality of the cooking doesn’t just bring in shoppers, for many motorists traveling hither and thither will make the detour to Rachel’s to enjoy this comforting, smart food: Irish beef braised in O’Hara’s Carlow stout; chicken and mushroom vol au vent; hake with chips and garden salad; Thai chicken curry. Children can choose from carefully prepared food, and in Rachel’s Café everyone is properly looked after.
