You’re greeted by long-time restaurateur Tom O’Connell himself and treated to some of his old-school charm and dry wit while he shows you to your table.
They offer a most interesting wine list which is divided into House, Super House, and Very Special reds and whites, listing everything from each wine’s alcohol by volume to its wine merchant. The food is a very tempting array of delights on every menu – lunch, dinner, high tea, supper and Sunday buffet – and there’s good value to be had. O’Connell’s deals in fine Irish produce and their menus proudly showcase this: Catalonian charcoal oven-roasted free-range Irish chicken (raised by Donal Nash in Co Limerick), char-grilled rib steak of Irish Hereford on the bone, grilled fillets of Castletownbere landed plaice.
The cooking is simple, the food is honest and hearty, and it’s a sublime taste of Irish hospitality.
