Mitchel House Restaurant
Michael O’Dwyer and his team are heading towards their tenth anniversary in Mitchel House, and what a service they have rendered to the town of Thurles ever since they opened. A handsome room, smart modern cooking from chef Shane Boyle, great drinks, excellent professional service, all of them brought together in one happy, successful venture. All along the way, they have kept innovating, improving, up-dating – they carried out a major renovation in mid-2016 – and the result is a superbly service-focused restaurant, the sort of destination that offers exactly what you feel like eating. Mr Boyle’s cooking roams across all the main staples – fish; chicken; barbarie duck; sirloin and fillet steaks; trio of Irish pork – but the imagination brought to each dish makes for vivid, unpretentious eating: pork and beef meatballs with tomato and smoked cheese sauce and aubergine purée; boxty potato cake with wild mushrooms; battered cod with vegetable slaw; barbarie duck with parsnip purée and kale; sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce. Value for money is very keen, and Mitchel House is your dinner destination in Thurles.
