Having worked with some of the finest talents in the culinary world, chef Liam Kirwan has brought all his valuable experience back home to Tipperary and, in alliance with a network of gifted food artisans, Mr Kirwan is cooking for the Gods in the pert and pretty Mikey Ryan’s. This is a true gastropub: a country bar converted and modernised, and with the sort of cooking that makes you lick your lips: house smoked salmon with horseradish cream; smoked hake fish cake with soft poached egg; lamb cutlets with white pudding boxty; chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding. The dishes are plosive with flavour and texture, and they are beautifully judged and executed.
