The fish and chip-loving readers of The Irish Times spoke their approval of Galway's legendary McDonagh's when the newspaper polled readers as to which fish and chip shop was the best in Ireland. McDonagh's – and this was no surprise – was right up there with the best of them from Dublin, Cork and everywhere else, not just a top-class chipper, but a much-loved top class chipper.
The restaurant is just as beloved as the chipper, and just as busy: the room is always packed – just like the chip shop – and you come to McDonagh’s for fresh fish, fish that they source and cook correctly, and they send it out with confidence, consistency, and charm. The only hard part is actually getting a table, of course. McDonagh's is part of the rich fabric of Galway city.
