“Larkin's – Family Bakers Since 1859”
1859! My goodness! Five generations of the Larkin family, working from the days of horse power through the age of car power and into the modern digitised world. It is simply extraordinary to look back at old photographs of Milltown, from 1930, and to see pictures of the bar and bakery and shop, the little delivery vans, the cattle and carts, the long coats and – above all – the hats: everyone wearing a hat!
Today, Gerard and Helen and Paudie continue the noble tradition of the specialist local bakery, a tradition that has always been particularly strong in County Kerry, winning prizes at Blas na h-Eireann in 2013 for their soda bread and the porter brack, adding to a trio of awards on the previous year. Their longevity is based on hard work – as the town sleeps Gerard and his team are hard at work fashioning their Kerry porter brack and their multiseed health bread along with the rest of the range, ready to get the breads and cakes into the vans for 8am for delivery to the shops throughout the county.
It's impossible to understate how noble a calling it is to be a prized local bakery. Larkin's is a true star, a gem for the county, so don't miss these wonderful breads in the best Kerry shops and supermarkets.
