Violet Connell’s benchmark West Cork B&B made its debut in the 100 Best Places to Stay in Ireland as long ago as 1997. What we wrote about the house almost two decades ago remains just as true today:
“There is only one problem with Violet Connell’s lovely Fortview House: once you stay there, you don’t want to leave.”
It’s a commonplace to hear people describe Fortview as “the best B&B”, as they head off having enjoyed meticulous breakfast cookery, superb hospitality, and the very, mature style of this fine farmhouse, hard by the road as you head down to little Goleen, in deepest West Cork.
The best way to explain the charm of the house is to recount the story of two friends, who were staying here some years back. They liked it so much that they would stay, enjoying a drink, until late, because they didn’t want to experience of being in Fortview House to stop.
And we are all the same: don’t let our time in Fortview end, please!
