Kate Lawlor’s Fenns Quay is the corker in Cork cooking.
Great cooks realise quickly that everything they need to express their culinary philosophy lies close to home. Kate Lawlor knows this better than most. In Fenn’s Quay, her menus are a tribute to her city and her county, expressed in dishes that showcase both her own skills, and those of the artisans she treasures. You might have Durcan’s spiced beef hash with a poached egg for Saturday brunch, or O’Mahony’s featherblade with Ballyhoura mushrooms for dinner (one of the restaurant’s fine signature dishes), and then have Mimi’s Cork dry gin and tonic dessert to finish a splendid meal. “Cork on a Fork” they call it, and these splendid dishes are done with pride, accomplishment, and a wise, shy humour.
