Josephine and Barry have been offering true West Cork hospitality to visitors to Edencrest for well on nigh twenty years now, making people feel welcome both in their cosy home and in the self-catering cottage since they first opened in 1995. The house has a perfect location – a couple of minutes west of Bantry town on the N71, the major route – and as such is the perfect base for exploring throughout West Cork and Kerry, letting you head off down the Beara, Sheep's Head and Mizen peninsulas, or scooting over the hill to Kenmare. The house itself is comfy, unpretentious and welcoming, the breakfasts are wholesome and tasty, staring with freshly baked scones and soda brads, abetted by scrambled eggs, good omelettes, the full Irish and some nice home-made potato cakes. But what makes Edencrest stand out is the attention to detail Josephine pays to everything, all the little touches attended to in order to make guests feel special and welcome. That's what makes a great West Cork hostess.
