Cases Wine Warehouse

All the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

”We listed new wines from France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Portugal, Germany, Chile, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand”, Peter Boland writes in his end-of-year summation for 2013. That's a pretty typical sort of year for Cases, Mr Boland's multi-award-winning wine warehouse on the Tuam Road. Driven, dynamic, enthusiastic, head-over-heels in love with the world of wine and its depthless culture, Cases is a destination that pushes the button for wine lovers.

If we had one suggestion to make about the best way to approach their list, it would be to suggest that when you are buying or ordering, that you simply ask: what wines are you currently crazy about? what grog is ringing your bells, floating your boats? what fruit of the vine from a far-flung place do you find yourself talking about all the time? And if they say, oh, right now it's the Campus Bellum from Sicily, and we're crazy about White Gypsy Russian Imperial Stout, and have you tried the Cantina Offida made by Curzio Renaioli in the Marche?

And you say: just put 'em all in a box.

What they really sell in Cases is magic: the magic of culture, creativity and craft that drives people to make wine, and to sell wine.
