It has only taken one year for Carina Camerino’s bakery to change the habits of Dubliners.
A year ago, you would never have seen anyone walking down Capel Street eating a raspberry chocolate brownie. Today, at the River Liffey end of Capel Street, you practically trip over people whose attention is focused entirely on eating a cake truffle, or a piece of chocolate fudge brownie. They don’t see you coming as they meander through this little strip of foodie heaven, because they are so rapt up in that raspberry almond square, or else they are paying attention solely to the cream cheese icing on that carrot cake, or that beef brisket with pickled onion on a Challah roll. They don’t see you. They are Walking Cakeheads, and it is all Ms Camerino’s fault. Carina’s Cakery has captured them.
How has Carina done it? Simple: amazing baking, amazing cakes, fab coffees and teas, great breakfast treats – can you resist Breakfast Cake? We can’t – and all this with smiling service, service that personifies Ms Camerino’s slogan of “Lovin’ From The Oven”
But just be careful and watch out for those Camerino Cakeheads. A Dubliner is possession of a slice of lemon drizzle cake with ganache, raspberries and pistachio can’t be expected to behave rationally.
