Barron’s is one of Waterford’s finest traditional bakeries – heck, Barron's is one of Ireland's finest traditional bakeries – with breads and blaas all made in their classic, traditional Scotch oven, with the bread allowed lots of time to develop and ferment, and with the final result offering nothing but sheer goodness. Esther and Joe Barron’s bakery is simply wonderful, an archetype of what an Irish artisan company could be, should be, and can be.
Their beautiful history of the bakery and the Barron family, Our Daily Bread, is an outstanding local history, and the bakery’s importance to the pretty town of Cappoquin cannot be overstated. And Esther and Joe seem to be ever-young, as you will find if you visit the shop, or maybe meet them at the Dungarvan Market where their trestle table will be piled high with wonderful, traditional, sweet-smelling loaves. They are a treasure.
