Meet The Brewer - Kevin O'Hara, Independent Brewing Company of Ireland

Archive - all the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

What inspired you to make beer?
I'm been lucky enough to make some great friends, a lot of those
friendships would have been formed or cemented while enjoying a beer
or two. I have always liked "messing" or experimenting and started
making beer at home, playing around with different ingredients and
flavours. For me, nothing beats having a beer with friends and I like
to think that other people can now enjoy my beer whilst relaxing with
their friends and their own special moments.

Describe your brews?
We have a range of three beers at the moment. They're based on the
type of beers and flavours that I enjoy drinking, they go best with
food and good company! They are all brewed with a different setting in
mind. They're for people to enjoy as they wish but on a nice sunny day
our gold ale is perfect to relax with, lighty hopped and gently
refreshing. On a colder day I'd recommend our red ale with its warming
roasted malts. Our pale ale is strong and bitter, with plenty of late
hops giving grapefruit and piney aromas and designed for you to enjoy
at any time.

What new brews have you planned?
We have a run of once off brews in the pipeline at the moment, with
the first one coming very soon. We'll be keeping our core range and
having some fun with the special editions. Having fun with the
ingredients was part of what attracted me to brewing and this will be
part of that.

What did you do before you brewed?
I have a background in Marine Science and managed Galway Atlantaquaria
- the aquarium in Salthill, Galway.
