Surprising Food Gems and Capital Culture Cuisine

Archive - all the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

This July Megabites brings you a quintet of surprises, places where you find brilliant food, and can’t quite believe your luck, because who would have imagined you would find This – points to plate of incredible food – like, Here? Whoo!

With the Surprises comes news of our latest online innovation, where we introduce the first of our series of CITY GUIDES www.guides.ie/cities, our method of helping you to navigate to the places with the best cooking in the city. Congratulations to Galway, which has just been voted European Capital of Culture 2020. What an achievement for the city. Galway features as one of our City locations for finding the best food, as does Limerick, one of the close runners up in the competition for 2020.

So read on for our surprises: a food shack at the end of a sandy strand. Avant grade cooking in a garden centre with a grass roof. Cutting-edge European cuisine in the middle of a block of Corpo flats. Excellence in a quiet country pub in a quiet country town. A nano-coffee-roastery embedded in a city car park.
