Megabites Awards from McKennas' Guides

Archive - all the best places to eat, shop and stay in Ireland. A local guide to local places.

2015 has been a very good year for Irish food, and our annual Megabites awards celebrate some of the people and places who made it special. In addition to the fact that our restaurants got better, our artisans prospered in their creativity, whilst the food culture as a whole developed a strong meshwork, right throughout the 32 counties. But perhaps the most interesting thing to have happened was the steady and sure emergence of Ireland into the global food reckonings and, whilst Galway may not be the new Copenhagen just yet, it is sure getting there.

In addition to the memorable people and places of the year, we have also chosen a handful of very special philanthrofoodies, the people whose work quietly and modestly bolsters our food culture. We would love to hear your nomination for people whose selfless work has made a difference to our food culture in 2015. Let us know on social media with the hashtag #myfoodhero2015

Happy New Year!
