We Irish are obsessed with restaurants. Over the last dozen years or so, we have been conducting one long, involved love affair with eating out. Restaurateurs have become cultural figures, restaurants have become cultural totems. We have helped to create people like Joe Macken, of Jo'burger, Crackbird and Skinflint, and we have created a situation where a Monday evening in Pichet feels like a Saturday night anywhere else.
